Opting Out of Credit Sharing and Telemarketing Calls
Pre-screen solicitation offers
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Consumer Credit Reporting Companies are permitted to include your name on lists used by creditors or insurers to make firm offers of credit or insurance that are not initiated by you. The FCRA also provides you the right to “Opt-Out”, which prevents Consumer Credit Reporting Companies from providing your credit file information for firm offers. You can opt out for free.
Telemarketing calls
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls. You can register your home or mobile phone for free.
Opt-out Benefits
- Less chance of identity fraud
- Your personal information remains private
- Lenders must request your personal information directly from you
- Less junk mail
- No annoying and unwanted telemarketing calls
